Custom bar top kits and bar rail moldings for home and commercial bars.

We recently had the privileged to worked with a client in Bushnell Illinois building a large commercial bar in an 1870’s building being renovated into a bar and restaurant. The project required custom bar top kits, Curved and straight Chicago bar rail moldings and bar top trim all made from quartersawn sapele mahogany. Working closely with the client we carefully selected the sapele mahogany lumber for color and grain and proceeded to machine all of the parts required in our western Maryland millwork facility. Once completed the entire project was carefully inspected, packaged and shipped by freight to our client for final fitment, assembly and finishing. The customer received the bar building materials, he substantially completed the job and then sent us progress pictures with a review to share with other potential customers.

We’ve received many testimonials and pictures from clients over the years sharing their experiences with our products and services and would like to extend a “Thank you” to Mark for his review below.

My wife and I are renovating an 1870’s masonry building with the goal of turning it into a bar and a restaurant. Besides the challenge of the project itself, we’re doing most of the work ourselves and are not professionals. My first real experience with carpentry has just been in the last 18 months working on this project. Before doing this bar top, all I had worked with was pine – wood that I could ‘putty and paint’.  When I contacted Paul and Hardwoods Incorporated, it wasn’t really possible for me to hide that I didn’t know much about finished wood, or even carpentry.  Paul quickly, professionally and gracefully guided me thru the design and material selection. I placed the order and it arrived on time, and well packaged so that nothing could get damaged.  I downloaded the relevant install instructions from their website, and watched their videos. I couldn’t be more pleased with the service, quality, and value I received. As I told Paul on the phone after I finished the install, my compliments to him and his company would be better appreciated if he knew how picky I am.   I give these guys my highest recommendation and have let them know they are free to share my contact information with potential customers looking for a reference.

Do you need bar rail molding longer than 8’? We have it up to 16’ long!

Bar Top, Drip Edge, Bar Rail & MoreBar Top, Drip Edge, Bar Rail & More

At Hardwoods Incorporated, we offer our bar rail moldings that are longer than 8’ cut and bisquet-jointed for affordable shipping nationwide.

All of our 10’, 12’ and 15’ bar rail moldings offered online are made from one full length of bar rail which we cut in half. We install bisquet joints so they can be re-assembled on the bar top, matching the grain back together. These are NOT two random pieces of bar rail.

Cutting these longer bar rails in half allows us to provide you with one piece of bar rail made from the same piece of wood that we can ship anywhere in the country at a lower price.

We also offer a tool at checkout “order notes,” where you can indicate if you want your bar rail cut and bisqueted in a different location other than the center so long as any one piece does not exceed 8’. (Sorry we do not offer miter cuts)

Since offering this service, the response from customers has been positive and the cost of shipping is kept within reason. Of course, the option of shipping uncut full lengths of our bar rail molding by LTL truck is available and makes sense for larger purchases.

If you are interested in having one of our longer bar rail pieces shipped whole or in half, please call us for a quote. Be sure to also ask about our 16’ long bar rails available in limited styles and wood types for your larger bar projects!

“I purchased the red oak rail to match the pattern of the bar. It is truly amazing how it completed the look of the top. It is always the first thing people notice. I was nervous about receiving a split 10′ piece, but the biscuit joint worked out great and you can hardly see the seam. Thanks so much for a great product.”

“Hello,
I wanted to write and thank you for your excellent product and help with ordering.
We selected the BR550 “Chicago Style” bar edge in oak. Your advice on going with the precut/jointed pieces to allow delivery by UPS was perfect. You can not spot the seam as you said once installed and stained.
Your product is the perfect finishing touch and we receive many compliments on the “custom” touch your product added.”

Easy to install bar rail molding.

While some companies sell bar rails, they don’t make bar rails. What they offer requires a lot of extra work, time and cost just to accommodate installation of their product. Why use extra layers of plywood, shims, or some other nonstock, hard to find thickness of material for your bar top in order to make the bar rail fit?

At Hardwoods Incorporated we’ve been making bars and bar rails for over 40 years. We know from experience what works best and that’s why our bar rail moldings are designed to fit on standard thickness bar top materials. Our BR475, BR475-S, BR550 and BR650 bar railings install on 2 layers of ¾” material. Our BR450 and BR158 railings can be installed on 1 or 2 layers of ¾” material and our BR475-3CM bar rail installs on standard granite and stone thickness of 3 centimeters.

How to finish the end of a bar top & bar rail

When building your own home bar whether it is free standing, a peninsula or an L shaped bar, at some point you will need to finish the end of your bar top and bar rail molding. Here are a few suggestions on how to do just that without using those unsightly end caps.

Here the bar top end was finished by laminating a piece of matching solid wood over the raw edge of the main and sub bar top prior to installing the bar rail.

Here you can see where the bar top, glass rail, drip edge and bar rail molding come together. By installing one of our bar top wings you can create a smooth intersection for all of these bar top parts to meet resulting in a clean professional look.

Here you can see a custom granite bar top where the end was finished by covering the sub top with inside edge trim and the BR475-3CM bar rail mitered back to itself creating a natural end to the molding and bar top.
