Want a home bar? Build one!

A home bar may be one of those home improvement projects that feels like a luxury to hire a professional to build, but is just daunting enough to frighten a prospective do-it-yourselfer. If you decide to make the leap and build your own home bar, you can enjoy many great advantages.

Home bars are great places to gather with family, friends, and neighbors to enjoy a cool drink and some snacks while cheering on your favorite sports team. They’re also ideal places to set up an espresso machine for a nice latte or iced coffee and some good conversation.

Whether you’re building a basement bar, a patio bar, or the latest bar shed, home bars are safe, comfortable places to spend your free time.

Home bars add value and a unique feel to your home, regardless of if you hire a professional or build it yourself.

If you do choose to build your own home bar, you can work at your own pace instead of that of a contractor. Once it’s finished, you get the satisfaction of knowing and saying that you built that beautiful new home feature all on your own.

Why choose Hardwoods Incorporated?

When searching for the finishing touch for your home or commercial bar, do you really want to buy your bar top or bar rail molding from a source that also sells refrigerators, concrete, and shingles? How important to you is quality and technical support? Do you desire the ability to watch a video of a bar top installation or speak to a knowledgeable person when you’re in a bind?

At Hardwoods Incorporated, we do bar-building supplies. And only bar-building supplies. With our premium bar rail moldings, radius corners, bar tops, and other bar-building necessities, you are sure to find something to fit your needs and deliver you the quality and beauty you expect from your home or commercial bar.

image003   image001

Cheap bar rail moldings are made thin and fast to save money, resulting in profiles that do not match and surface chatter marks that are difficult to sand and are outside of professional standards.

Before you buy bar rail molding check the following:

1) Is the thickness of the bar rail molding less than 1-3/8”?

2) Do you need to use a 2” x 4”, a shim panel or 3 layers of plywood to install the thin bar rail molding costing additional time and labor?

3) Is the bar rail molding offered in lengths longer than 8’ and in a variety of wood species to match your bar top?

4) Does the vendor provide an installation video, finishing instructions, and customer support?

5) Does the vendor offer to prefinished bar rail (Something that is never a good idea)?

6) Does the product have good reviews from verified customers?

7) Have you tried to call the vendor with pre-purchase questions?

8) Does the vendor make the product or just sell it from a third party shipper?

Be sure to ask all these questions of your potential suppliers because, in the end, you get what you pay for.

At Hardwoods Incorporated we make every product we sell in-house, starting with premium kiln-dried rough lumber. Each piece is hand-selected for quality, color, and grain to give you beautiful finished bar rail molding, bar top parts and bar front parts.

Our premium bar rail moldings finish 1-3/8” to 1-3/4” thick and fit easily onto 2 layers of ¾” material. We recommend a quality plywood sub top and our solid wood main bar top kits directly on top as shown. Flooring is not recommended.

Our bar rail moldings are available in lengths from 2’ to 16’ in over a dozen domestic and imported wood species including ash, oak, maple, cherry, walnut, poplar, and mahogany.

Our “Bar building resources” link contains over a dozen tutorials, installation videos, templates, and blogs to answer all your pre- and post-purchase questions. There, you will find helpful suggestions from our bar rail experts.

We take pride in our work from selecting the rough lumber to fabrication of the bar rail parts, from packaging to shipping. We respect your purchase and your business.

Why Choose a Hardwood bar top Slab?

Sanded & Sealed. 2" thick x 24"-29" wide x 129" long. $4500.00

Hardwood bar tops make great additions to any home or commercial bar! Each unique slab comes with its own set of colors, wood grain, and flaws, giving your project an individual character. We at Hardwoods Incorporated have a wide variety of natural hardwood bar top slabs to choose from.

No two hardwood bar top slabs are alike, meaning your project will be unlike any other bar top out there.

Our solid one-piece bar top slabs can be routered with a soft bull nose edge to show off the full character of your new bar top while being a comfortable space for your guests to rest their arms. The bar top slabs also can be notched so you can add one of our Chicago-style bar rail moldings, and with many styles to choose from, you can find something to suit your needs.

install-wood-bar-rail-on-granite-bar-top

If you don’t like either of those options, your hardwood bar top slab can be kept in its natural form, and the edges can be sanded to a gentle finish to give your home or business that extra rustic touch.

Hardwood bar top slabs come in both domestic and imported wood species. Our inventory changes frequently as we receive new shipments, and no two bar tops ever look the same. Contact us today to see what we have in stock so you can be on your way to choosing that perfect piece to finish off your home or commercial bar.

Custom Commercial Bar Top

Pictured is a recently completed commercial bar top made from solid oak for a client in Chester, New York and manufactured by Hardwoods Incorporated using our stock bar top kits, glass rail & drip edge, bar top wings and BR475 Bar Rail Molding and radius corner.

New Shipping Specifications for BR475-S Bar Rail Radius Corners

Our BR475-S bar rail molding corners now ship with the skirt/apron portion trimmed back 1/2″ as shown below:

BR475-S

This 1/2″ cut back allows for the adjoining straight section of apron to lap over onto the radius section and thus creating a visual offset.

BR475-S

The offset adds strength to the joint, looks better visually and eliminates the need for perfect allignment with the seam on the actual bar rail molding itself. Please contact us with questions or concerns prior to ordering or when installing our BR475-S Bar Rail Radius Corners.

Fitting Bar Rail Radius Corners & Straights

Although all of our bar rail molding both radius and straight are made to meet or exceed industry standards for fit and consistency, it may be necessary to scribe and adjust the placement of the seams to achieve optimum results. This is especially true where curved parts intersect with straight parts as the conditions on the job site can vary from those under which the curved and straight parts were made. Not to worry, you can make slight adjustments out or up of either the straight or curved part to make a near perfect transition then sand and feather in the moldings to meet each other perfectly for finishing. Our bar rail moldings cover the main bar top by at least 1″ so it would be no problem to slightly shim out or push in one end or the other of the rail to close a miter or seam. We are not advocating sloppy or inaccurate work but are rather pointing out a few tricks of the trade that we feel are acceptable when making minor adjustments during the bar rail installation process. Our goal is to assist you in producing a fine finished bar top. We also recommend visiting our Bar Building Resources page to view our How to Install Bar Rail video and our Finishing Your Bar Rail tutorial for more details. As always we welcome your questions and encourage you contacting us by phone or email prior to installing or purchasing your bar rail molding.
